OUR MISSION
Advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research.
MISSION
The College Women's Club of Montclair (CWCM) is a 501c3 nonprofit composed of women with post-secondary education who believe strongly in the advancement of women through education and advocacy. We work to promote educational opportunities for women, provide financial aid to college-bound high school seniors, and gather for social events.
ACTIVITIES
CWCM holds an annual membership meeting. Programs are held approximately once a month, from September until June, and usually feature an interesting speaker and refreshments. We also have a Book Club and are open to other suggestions for special interest groups. Our members also help to staff our book sales and work to support any community project we take up for the year.
FUNDRAISING
CWCM raises money for financial awards chiefly through our semi-annual Used Book, Movie & Music Sale. Featuring nearly 100,000 donated books and other media, this semi-annual, multi-day event is run entirely by volunteers. Its financial successes provide the Awards Committee with funds for young women graduating from Montclair, Glen Ridge, Cedar Grove, and Verona High Schools. Bloomfield High School joined the list in 2025.
In 2024, Book Sale proceeds provided an allocation of $44,000 for 19 students to receive awards to further their education. We have awarded over $1.5 mission in scholarships since our inception.
We also take financial contributions to our award funds at the sale.
MEMBERSHIP
The CWCM welcomes new members who are interested in participating in our activities and who support our mission. Membership is open to women with a degree from a post-secondary education institution (i.e. a college degree, associate degree, or RN from a regionally accredited college or university, or certification from a professional organization).
PARTICIPATION
Attendance at our programs and volunteering with our semi-annual Used Book, Movie & Music Sale are open to all, regardless of gender or membership status.
