MEMBERS
Any woman is eligible for membership who holds an Associate’s Degree or higher degree from any accredited college or university or an RN degree or other pot-secondary institution. We welcome as a student affiliate anyone who is actively working towards a baccalaureate degree.
We hold general meetings open to the public approximately once a month at the First Lutheran Church, 153 Park Street, Montclair, NJ 07042 between September and June. Our Opening Luncheon, Holiday luncheon and Spring luncheon are often pot luck affairs held at the church. Each meeting features coffee and bagels followed by a speaker who brings timely information on topics that inform and provoke discussion. In the past, we heard about contemporary art quilts from a respected collector, colors for gardening by a Rutgers expert, the production of a MAM art show by the curator. Information on our meetings appears in the Chapter Newsletter and the Montclair Times – also Baristanet.com and Patch.com.
We generally host a fund raising event for the benefit of the club coffers– a theater party followed by dinner, an offering at Montclair State University, a trip to an NYC event, etc..
We have some special interest groups meeting in people’s homes depending on the interests of the members - a Literature group meets to discuss a book each month, a dining out group biannualy enjoys eating at local restaurants. Depending on the members, new groups may be created any given year. We are considering starting a bridge group, a knitting group. There is a Scholarship Committee which processes the scholarship applications and interviews the girls for our college awards.
Our major fund raising activity for scholarships is our twice yearly Book Sale. Many members and non-members work on receiving, sorting and pricing the donated books all year long. Each member is obligated to contribute some time to staffing the two Book Sales.
