OUR MISSION
Advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research.
The College Women's Club of Montclair (CWCM) is a 501c3 nonprofit formed from college-educated women who believe strongly in the advancement of women through education, advocacy, and research. We work to promote educational opportunities for women, provide financial aid to college-bound high school seniors, and gather for social events.
We raise funds for CWCM scholarships in several ways, chiefly through a semi-annual Used Book, Media & Music Sale featuring nearly 100,000 donated books and other items. The financial successes of our semi-annual book sales this past year provided the academic awards committee of CWCM with an allocation of $44,000 for girls graduating from area high schools in 2024. Nineteen applicants from Montclair, Glen Ridge, Cedar Grove, and Verona High Schools received these awards. We also hold other fund-raising activities to benefit the club.
CWCM membership meetings are held approximately once a month from September until June, usually featuring an interesting speaker and refreshments. We have two special interest groups at the moment: a book group and a dining-out group, but we are open to other suggestions. Our members also help to staff our book sales, work on the fundraiser, and support any community project we take up for the year.
We welcome new members who are interested in participating in the CWCM. A degree from a post-secondary education institution (a college degree, such as an associate degree or RN, from a regionally accredited college or university, or certification from a professional organization) is essential for membership. However, we welcome help with our CWCM Semi-Annual Book, Movie & Music Sale from anyone interested in our goals.
